Home Theatre Seating Makes The Room

When it comes to creating home theatres there's only one thing that ranks almost as high as the electronics equipment for making or breaking a room’s design. That key feature is the home theatre seating.

There are a whole lot of options out there in regard to home theatre seating. The styles range from actual movie theatre type row seating, complete with drink holders, to recliners, beanbag chairs and even couches. There are a few rules of the road to follow, however, when picking out this type of seating.

Home theatre seating should follow a few basic tenants to be considered a good choice:

  • Decor.  Whatever seating is chosen should fit into your overall design scheme. Good home theatre seating can fit in well with any type of décor. From movie theatre chic and classic antique to children’s room friendly, the seating choices are many. With this in mind, it's a good idea to pick a design scheme before hunting out good seating for a home theatre. If a scheme and colors are in place, it's very likely to find the perfect seats to complete the room's look while also adding to the relaxing feel of the room.
  • Comfort. This is key in choosing home theatre seating. The idea of creating a home theatre is generally to provide a place for family members to kick back, relax and enjoy entertainment together. If hard backed wood chairs are the only seating option, the room won't be as inviting as it could be. Comfortable couches, recliners and even deluxe movie theatre type seats all work well.
  • Size. It's a good idea to consider the size of the room being used before choosing home theatre seating. Some styles might fit in well in a larger room, but will dominate smaller ones. Since you'll want the perfect distance from the screen to the seats, picking the right size seating is also important.
  • People in the family. There are great home theatre seating choices available for family members of all sizes. Young children can even enjoy their own movie theatre or regular recliners in sizes meant for them. To truly make every member of a family feel comfortable, personalized seating is a great way to go.
  • Pricing. The truth is home theatre seating can get rather expensive. With top-of-the-line movie theatre style recliners costing a rather pretty penny, it's a good idea to set a budget before shopping. If you can't afford to go all out right away, considering buying piecemeal and completing the room when you can.

While it's not quite as important as having a great screen and good sound system, home theatre seating shouldn't be overlooked. If the electronics are in place, but the seats are so uncomfortable no one wants to watch a movie all the way through, the purpose of creating the room will be lost. When good home theatre seating options are in place, it will be difficult to pry family members away from the room – and time together.
